‘Right to Sight Camp’ at Amritsar Jail
Inaugurating this eye camp, the fountain head of the Prison reforms, Dr Kiran Bedi, a Megasaysay award-winner said, “prison reforms in the country has become an irreversible movement, which provides fresh hope to jail inmates”. Dr Bedi said the initiative taken by DIG Prisons Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh should be replicated in several prisons in the state, for improving the quality of life of the inmates.
Appreciating the contribution made by Rotary Club under its President Sumant Sud and Dr. Rohit Om Prakash of Om Prakash Satyam Netralaya Amritsar, she said it was everybody’s duty to contribute towards the welfare of this neglected lot. Kiran Bedi releases "Momentum"
‘MOMENTUM’, the inaugural edition of the news magazine of Amritsar Prison was released by Dr. Kiran Bedi, DG, BPR&D at Central Prison Amritsar on the 9th November, 2006. At this occasion, Dr. Bedi, the first lady IPS officer of the country, appreciated the efforts of Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh and other authorities of Amritsar Prison to start this magazine in such an impressive form and design.
Magsaysay Award winner Dr. Bedi came here to deliver valedictory address of a two days training programme “Seeing is Learning" (SIL) organized by the BPR&D(Bureau of Police Research and Development), Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi at Central Prison, Amritsar for Prisons officers of North India on the 8th and 9th November, 2006.
Swami Ramdevji visits Amritsar Prison
Swami Ramdevji visited Amritsar Prison on 17.11.2006. He was received by Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, an IPS officer looking after this Prison. Swamiji first took a round of the Prison area and then interacted with the prisoners. He was overwhelmed to see the respect of human values and dignity of mankind in this Prison. He was impressed with the education system being launched in the Prison with the help of educated prisoners. He also appreciated the functioning of Legal Aid Cell managed by the prisoners which has contributed in releasing more than 400 poor prisoners.
Swamiji later on conducted a Yoga session in the Prison premises. He taught various lessons on Yogasan, Pranayam, Kapalbhati and behavioural aspects of human life. He advised the inmates and officers to practice Yoga regularly.
